How should you choose seven electives?
Check the group rules and the actual package offered in your intake.
Choose four electives from Group A. Select the other three from Groups A and B, with up to two unlisted suitable units at Certificate IV or above from a current endorsed training package qualification or accredited course.
Which Group A options could be useful?
- BSBCMM412 — Lead difficult conversations
- BSBPEF402 — Develop personal work priorities
- BSBOPS403 — Apply business risk management processes
- BSBSTR401 — Promote innovation in team environments
- BSBWHS411 — Implement and monitor WHS policies, procedures and programs
These examples belong to Group A. Four elective places must come from that group; the remaining choices follow the package rules. A provider may offer a fixed selection rather than every listed option.
What could Group B add?
- BSBOPS405 — Organise business meetings
- BSBPEF502 — Develop and use emotional intelligence
- BSBPMG430 — Undertake project work
- BSBSUS411 — Implement and monitor environmentally sustainable work practices
- BSBSUS412 — Develop and implement workplace sustainability plans
These are Group B options. BSBPMG430 is permitted here; eligibility depends on this qualification’s packaging rules, not those of another course. BSBPEF502 is optional here but core in the BSB50420 Diploma.
What changed in Release 4?
Four cyber-security-awareness units were added to Group B: BSBXCS406, BSBXCS407, BSBXCS408 and BSBXCS409. They remain optional and do not turn every Certificate IV course into a specialist cyber qualification.
How could an everyday team goal guide your questions?
For difficult conversations, ask whether Group A unit BSBCMM412 is included. For organising your own workload, check BSBPEF402; for business risk, BSBOPS403. These are examples of listed choices, not requirements for every learner. Ask which four Group A choices the provider includes before comparing the remaining three places.
What if the provider has a fixed selection?
Compare the actual seven elective codes with the tasks you want to develop. Ask whether substitutions are available and suitable, what practical resources they need, and whether they change the timetable or total cost. A national elective list does not mean every option is offered in your intake.
